cgMuscle 2.0 Released!!
Hey Everybody,

I have uploaded cgMuscle 2.0 to the downloads section under plugins. I have received many emails wanting to check it out, so here's your chance Right now it is only compiled for 7.0 NT. We should get it up and running on Linux and OSX soon enough. If anybody needs a 6.5 version let me know and I'll try and get that up as well. Also there is no documentation right now and not much error checking so it might require you to play around a bit. Unfortantely because I dont make any money on this, I'm allowed to slack

Please post all questions on the site!

Update: Okay so I just did some really crude documentation. Check it out here:

Siggraph 2005
So Siggraph 2005 is over and it was really cool getting together with some of the other cgmuscle members.

There was a few interesting muscle talks, Paul Thuriot did his masterclass which was really awesome. If you never got a chance to check out, definitely make sure you buy the DVD when and if it comes out

Chris Evans (Pangloss) did a talk on muscle systems. He spoke about what's currently available and what all the tools actually do. He will probably be posting his notes on the site so that we can have a full summary of what the industry currently offers.

cgmuscle got a few mentions from several people in their talks. So thanks to everyone who plugged us

Make sure to check in on the forum, as I'm sure a lot of talk will stem from all the inspirational stuff showed.

Paul Thuriot's HyperReal Body Setup 2

[ image disabled ]

Hey Everybody,

Paul Thuriot is doing an Alias MasterClass this year and for anybody interested in muscle systems, it's a must see. His initial muscle system is the motivation behind this website and the existing plugin on this site. His new class will be introducing an even more complex muscle plugin that will be capable of even more, as well as some skinning solutions to accompany the muscle model.

If you get a chance to attend any of the classes, this is definitely the one to pick.

Go book your ticket here Alias Master Classes

Alias Master Classes

Here is a quick teaser

Feel free to post any question on this site, Paul is a regular visitor and should be able to answer them for you.

An attempt to revive cgMuscle
Hey All,

As the heading above suggests I'm going to try and revive this site. We have 400+ members now and I'm pretty sure that they all signed up for a reason. So with that said, here is some ideas:

Firstly, I will try and keep updates on current programs and events that might be of interest to the people here. Please also if you are aware of anything let me know so I can post it here (judd@cgmuscle.com).

As suggested by pthuriot, we are going to have a mini math quiz every now and again so that we can keep our brains alive and uncover some of the workings behind the stuff we work with everyday. What is the math behind a poleVector constraint?!? Yup, exactly those sort of things, so it will be relevant.

Also it would be really cool to get some more discussion on muscle and skin stuff going. Perhaps people can show what they've been working on and also maybe talk about their likes and dislikes as fas as some of the off the shelf plugins go (Comet Muscle System, MuscleTK..etc).

I will also try and conduct some interviews with some of the industry pros and have that posted on the website as well

Lastly, Alias will be releasing a new Hyper Real Masterclass series this year at Siggraph and so far it's sounds like it's really going to rock. Paul Thuriot will be presenting again, so you can definitely expect some really awesome muscle stuff from him... He will probably shed some more light on exactly what he'll be talking about closer towards the time and post it on the site. So for anybody that will be attending siggraph this year make sure to get your ticket for that class, I know for a fact you wont wanna miss this one!!

If people have any other suggestions of things that might keep them more active on the site, please dont hesitate to start a forum and get some discussion going.

Cool, look forward to some activity....

Something a little new and fresh
"It appears to be a fixed law, that the contraction of a muscle shall be towards its centre. Therefore the subject for mechanism on each occasion is, so to modify the figure, and adjust the position of the muscle, as to produce the motion required, agreeably with this law. This can only be done by giving to different muscles, a diversity of configuration, suited to their several offices, and to their situation with respect to the work which they have to perform. On which account we find them under a multiplicity of forms and attitudes; sometimes with double, sometimes with treble, tendons, sometimes with none: sometimes one tendon to several muscles, at other times one muscle to several tendons. The shape of the organ is usceptible of an incalculable variety, whilst the original property of the muscle, the law and line of its contraction, remains the same, and is simple. Herein the muscular system may be said to bear a perfect resemblance to our works of art. An artist does not alter the native quality of his materials, or their laws of action. He takes these as he finds them. His skill and ingenuity are employed in turning them, such as they are, to his account, by giving to the parts of his machine a form and relation, in which these unalterable properties may operate to the production of the effects intended."

Hey Guys, the news of cMuscle being integrated into maya is really great news. I think it will make things a lot easier by being straight out the box and I personally really havent had the time to keep cgMuscle up to date, so I look forward to seeing what people come up with! Thanks for all being so patient and continuing to support the site. Even though I dont keep it updated all the time, I hope it functions as an archive of information for people interested in cg muscle systems.
